Series Summary: Alternate Universe based on prompt ‘What if Sirius hadn’t run away to somewhere sunny after escaping Hogwarts but stayed and tried to make Harry’s wish of a home come true?’ Covers alternative 4th Year/Goblet of Fire and therefore does not follow canon religiously.

Author’s Note: Originally began publishing Aftershocks in April 2012 on FF.net, moving to parallel posting on AO3 in 2013.

Tropes/Cliches/Fanon: Independent!Sirius, Manipulative-but-well-meaning!Dumbledore. Plays with fanon concepts of Ancient and Noble Houses, Potter wealth and status, Super!Harry.

Content Warnings: References to child abuse (neglect, emotional – Harry; physical, emotional – Sirius) in early parts, references and discussion of grooming and rape/dub-con/sexual contact by an adult with a minor (not Harry) in the later part of the fic. Bodily possession of a child by Voldemort; torture and killing by Death Eaters. Canon-typical violence.

    I love this story and read it at least 4 times a year. It brings me such joy! I’ve gone as far as formatting it to be bound as a book.

      Thank you for the lovely feedback – I’m very glad you enjoy the story so much. No need to send me the file as I will never publish it as a book given it is fanfiction, but it is always flattering if a reader wants to get a book version for themselves.

    While I know fanfiction is many things to many people; for me, it is a way to find closure and/or correction that I do not find in the original works. I absolutely HATED that JKR killed off so many characters that deserved their own story.

    What I found with A Marauders Plan was excellent character development and a story progression that made sense. The holes in the canon plots have been mostly filled (can anyone truly fix the over-usage of socks in the original) and several characters have been redeemed.

    Your writing is intelligent, compelling and of high quality. In trying to convey to you how much I love this story, I find I cannot narrow down only a few examples of what exactly I love. What I’d like to do is take each section, line by line, and tell you why it is so perfect. But, as this is an 800k+ story, no one wants to read an 800k+ review. Please believe me when I say, I love this story en toto. The characters/characterizations, the plots, the sub-plots, the descriptions, the dialogue, everything…ON POINT!

    Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into writing this story. I am forever grateful for it and you.

      Thank you for your lovely feedback – I’m so pleased that you loved A Marauder’s Plan so much. While I always understood why JKR killed off Sirius, the beauty of fanfiction is definitely its ability to tell the stories which aren’t told by the original. It was definitely a work of love for me to tell a story where Sirius became the father figure for Harry that I always wanted him to be. Thank you for commenting!

    I would love to get this bound into a book if you are okay with that? I absolutely love this fanfic and would love to have it in my book collection (I, unfortunately for my wallet, found someone on Etsy who will bind fanfics for me with the authors permission). I would be happy to show you the final product (although it will be a while) if you wanted! (And you’d be credited as the author, and it’s only for my personal collection)

      Hi Sarah, I appreciate the want and desire to have an actual physical book – I love books!

      I’ve taken some time to think about this because I’ve been debating whether this would be problematic in respect of HP copyright which is held by JKR. On the one hand, it’s only for you, and it’s you paying for a binding not for the actual story (that was my first thought), but, on the other hand, the Etsy binder is still profiting from a fanwork for which they do not own the copyright, even if it is a second-hand-once-removed type of a thing. And then there is the question of what happens to the physical copy when you, as Dumbledore would say, move onto the next great adventure.

      In the end, I’ve come down on the side of: I’m really sorry but the answer is no. My preference is for A Marauder’s Plan, and indeed any of my works, to remain a freely accessible digital story only in line with fair use.

      But thank you for loving the story so much that you want it as an actual book – I’m hugely touched by that.

    I was ecstatic to find your website…I’ve loved this story since I first read it over at ffn and it’s been my go-to feel good fanfiction ever since… Your way with words is truly one of a kind and it’s magic when, as a reader, you can feel the love and the genuine care that an author puts into his/her work…and this is what your stories are able to do for me. I’m looking forward any update on your other series, but “A Marauders PLan ” will always occupy a special place in my heart. Thank you for giving life and words to such an amazing story.
