The Grief of the Feline

He is Mum’s cat, this ball of fur,

unfriendly and sharp of claw.

My cat is a striped soulmate,

caring heart and sharp of mind.

I said goodbye to Mum.

Lied and said she could let go.

I think he knows.

He cuddles close, first time ever,

when the room is dark and still.

My cat keeps watch beside us both,

our own loving sentinel.

We all wait together,

Her cat presses closer still.

Then, the phones rings.
