Author’s Note: One of my oldest poems.
Content warnings: Allusion to sex.
In my head I hear the music,
In my heart I feel the beat.
And soon my soul is singing
Whilst my body feels the heat.
I wrap my arms around you,
Will your heart belong to me?
The dance that we’re beginning
Has always been our destiny.
We move together slowly,
We advance and then retreat.
I can feel your heart is pounding
An unsteady racing beat.
Our bodies soon become slick,
Our hands reach out to grip,
As the rhythm takes us over
Our defenses fall and slip.
Soon there is no thought involved,
The dance becomes our all.
As the music becomes crescendo
We can just enjoy the fall.
But now the dance is over,
We may turn and walk away.
And know the music’s written
To dance again some day.
