Author’s Note: One of my older poems.

Content warnings: Allusion to depression and suicidal thoughts.

She is locked in clouds;

Suffocating slow.

She’s fighting to break free

But pain keeps her bound.

She cannot do it.

Not yet.

She is swept away by riptides;

Drowning fast.

She’s struggling to the surface

But grief weighs her down.

She cannot do it.

Not yet.

She is buried in a deep pit;

Looking up.

She’s climbing to the light

But darkness finds her.

She cannot do it.

Not yet.

She is trapped in place by bonfires;

Burning bright.

She’s finding her path between

But fear blocks her way.

She cannot do it.

Not yet.

She sways on the edge of no return;

Staring down.

She’s wondering if the end will hurt

But hope halts her step.

She cannot do it.

Not yet.
