Broken Bottle

Broken bottle on the ground

Shards of glass are all around

It was yours, my Valentine,

Perfect love of our design

I thought I was wide awake

But didn’t see the bottle break

I forget – did I let go?

Did it shatter from a blow?

Did it slip from my fingers?

The memory still lingers

Of its ideal shape and size

It required no disguise

Clear and pure, it gleamed so bright

In the dark, a shining light

It was solid to the core

Didn’t see the tiny flaw

It was just the smallest crack

Thin sharp line along the back

We both missed the warning sign

Now there is no Valentine

On the day for lovers true

We reach out for only glue

And find all the broken parts,

Fix the bottle and our hearts.

It can never be the same

Its purity stained with blame

Jagged edge cuts and mars

The bottle has so many scars

Maybe there will be a day

When at last we’ll find a way

To fuse the pieces back at last

Have the bottle of our Past

I hope this is not the end

Although, it’s so hard to mend

This broken bottle of mine

That’s my wish this Valentine.
